Victoria Ivy’s Birth Story

Thank you Mama Bran and her family for sharing her awesome birth story with us!

Mom called me when her water broke–just like last time, with no contractions yet. She took a shower, and the rushes started to come! I immediately left for their home, remembering her first birth was quick for a first timer! I arrived and checked on mom, who was having contractions on her hands and knees in the living room. Before long, she began to show signs of transition–telling me she needed pain relief and this was really awful! I asked if she wanted me to check her cervix, thinking the results would probably be encouraging. “I think I’m pushing!” she told me.

Sure enough, she was 9 cm! I asked her husband to fill up the tub, knowing we were very close to birth.  She cried, “I don’t want to move!” I gently asked, “Are you sure you don’t want that water birth? Let’s walk over to the tub.” She and girlfriend agreed, and we walked her over to the nice warm tub, where she relaxed for a few minutes before contractions resumed.

Before long, she was pushing out that baby! She pushed out her daughter with swift strength in the tub with the support of her girlfriend and the birth team while husband took beautiful photos! Welcome Baby Victoria, and congratulations to big sister, whose birth I attended two years ago.
